Course description
Students develop core competencies for managing conflict and crisis in security, community safety, and first responder contexts. Building on foundational knowledge of mental health, students examine safe and effective intervention strategies to assess risk and apply evidence-based de-escalation techniques using verbal and non-verbal communication while maintaining situational awareness. Guided by legal and ethical responsibilities, students apply proportionate decision-making to select appropriate responses through immersive, scenario-based learning that strengthens professional judgment and supports the safe management of conflict and potentially hazardous situations

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
